You stare out your window wondering when the rain will stop. You just want to play outside, why can’t the rain just stop for a little while? If you’re like me, and need something to do on these rainy days, here’s a fun project that will keep your creative juices flowing!
Have you ever asked yourself these questions: Why can’t we drink rain water? Where does our clean water come from? How do we purify and clean rain water?
A water filtration system is the answer! Water purification plants turn dirty water from rivers and lakes into safe, clean water for us to drink. Here’s the process.
- Aeration – Allows gases into the water to escape by adding oxygen
- Coagulation- Process that allows dirt in the water to chemically stick together
- Sedimentation- Gravity pulls dirty clumps to the bottom of the jar.
- Filtration – Filters out the dirty particles in the water.
- Disinfection – Chemists use harsh chemicals to make the water safe to drink.
You can make your own water filtration system at home on a rainy day. Check out this cool video for the instructions!
